This enables them to make informed decisions regarding the most suitable course of action and understand how technology can be advantageous. Establishing a genetic diagnosis or risk also aids colleagues in primary and secondary care in determining optimal treatment and care protocols.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u200bWhen I mention that I am a clinical genetics doctor, people often express sympathy, assuming I no longer see patients. Unfortunately, this perception is influenced by media portrayals and artists like Jake and Dinos Chapman, whose recent exhibition at the Saatchi Gallery perpetuates the notion of genetic monsters.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u200bContrary to these perceptions, I actively engage with patients on a regular basis, collaborating closely with Cytogenetic and Molecular laboratories. Medical Genetics serves as a diagnostic and counselling resource for individuals or families grappling with suspected or confirmed genetic disorders. This includes those directly affected and individuals concerned about their familial risk.
